Meningeal enhancement in people with multiple sclerosis

  • In individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), gadolinium-enhanced 3D FLAIR MRI successfully detected leptomeningeal contrast enhancement (LMCE), dura matter enhancement/falx cerebri enhancement (DME/FCE) and vessel wall enhancement (VWE), with a correlation between meningeal enhancement and advanced age.

Why this matters

3D FLAIR-MRIs of LMCE, DME/FCE, VWE may detect potential biomarkers for leptomeningeal inflammation and rapid disease progression.
